Colchuck So Cold
So so so cold.
As I sat in the middle of Lake Colchuck, high in the Enchantment Wilderness, staring at the the glacier the water flowed from and I sat on top of, I wondered how long my body could withstand the piercing cold.
I tried to hold poses on the stand up paddle board and I would have to take breaks to punch out the cramps and defrost the toes with my hands. I looked over at Leah as she perched on a rock in the water, socks on feet and camera in hand and knew she too must be wondering if we could pull off this photo shoot before catching hypothermia. The sun was coming…we could see it inching our way.
Honestly, when it did reach us, it saved us. It warmed me down to the bones so fast that I stood up on my board and opened my chest and heart to the sun, soaking it in as deep as I possibly could.
This lake has my heart. What is it about you Colchuck? You really get to people. You are beautiful. You make people work for it. You are so dynamic that I feel like I could make this journey to you 100 times and still barely scratch the surface. Your water is beautiful but I’ve seen more stunning. Your backdrop is by far the best. I think it is the journey though… I think it is the journey.
